Researching Common Territories

What does it mean to share a physical border? What kind of spaces emerge where various countries and their inhabitants share borders?

Description

What does it mean to share a physical border? What kind of spaces emerge where various countries and their inhabitants share borders? The project “Researching Common Territories” aims to interact with adjacent spaces in different ways by conducting a series of field schools, workshops, study tours, and research the common border settings. After completing several field schools in different regions of Europe and beyond, the field research will be represented as a collective exhibition of findings, experiences, and encounters and will be shared with the public.

The first edition of the field school series “Researching Common Territories” took place in the Marneuli region of Georgia, neighboring Armenia, and Azerbaijan from 4 to the 10th of September 2022. The empirical part of the program focused on the fieldwork that aimed to document common everyday practices and spaces in the course of one intensive week. The school brought together participants of different nationalities from diverse backgrounds in journalism, architecture, filmmaking, and anthropology.
